Air Quality Information

At this time SWAN does not address air quality directly. But we all know there are air quality issues related with solid waste management! These include dump and home burn barrel smoke, road dust, used oil burning, odor issues, and potential vapors from toxic chemicals, etc. See our information on burning wastes and road dust.

IGAP funding can cover air quality activities that directly improve your solid waste situation. If it is reasonable to call it a “solid waste activity” (for example, upgrading your burnbox), it is likely fundable by IGAP. But looking for air quality grants is another way to fund solid waste-related air quality work. And developing an air quality program is a path that you might want to start on. A program can be as simple as community education and training, and complex as monitoring air quality setting regulations. Like everything else, it is a step at a time.

Remember, both indoor and outdoor air quality problems are often present in our Villages. If you are interested in mold in Alaska houses, click here.

Click on the links below for an interactive website with lots of useful information. Some of the advice and drawings are not applicable to Villages (especially the cartoons of the big supermarkets and houses!). But a lot of the information still applies, and it is easy to use. http://www.checnet.org/healthehouse/houserules/index.asp http://www.checnet.org/healthehouse/virtualhouse/index.asp
