Road Mats - New Technology
Composite mats made of high performance thermoplastic
look to be a promising new technology for use as portable roads
(for landfills, around communities etc.). The heavy duty mats can
withstand the weight of heavy equipment, are a dust-free alternative
to gravel roads, are designed to protect the tundra, last a long
time, and can be moved later if desired. We will add more information
that we find about composite mats to this page as we collect it.

Grant opportunities
In mid-2005, the National Resource Conservation from
Bethel was offering a program that would fund 75% of a project that
has to do with providing environmentally friendly types of access
over tundra, (the intent would be to protect tundra and not replace
other roads, or use in non-tundra areas). Contact: Andy Oxford
